Blessing Number 2

When Emrie, was about 7 months old Phil and I started talking about how much fun we were having with her and how we could see ourselves having another baby soon. I knew I didn't want to have another winter baby because I didn't want them to have to share their birthday with all the other holidays that take place around that time of year. So we started seriously talking about having another baby sooner. Because it took us nine months to get pregnant with Emrie, we figured it would take a while to get pregnant this time also. We decided to start praying and let God's timing work when it would. Two months later we found out Emrie was going to be a big sister! This time around we are so excited because we know what we will get to experience in nine short months!!!

Finding Out!

I had told your Phil that we wouldn't know if I was pregnant until Sunday, October 23, but I kind of wanted to know before him so that in case I was pregnant I could surprise him. So on Tuesday, October 18, I took a test even though I knew it was really early. I couldn't read the lines and I thought I saw an extremely faint line, but really I don't think there was anything there. I waited until Friday, October 21, (Emrie's 10 month birthday) and I just couldn't wait any longer. I took another test and this time there were 2 lines, but one was faint. I thought I would wait a little while longer and take another one. Again there were two lines, but one was faint. So I drove to the store and bought a digital one. Sure enough that one said "PREGNANT"! I was so excited I started crying and ran to my bedroom to pray and thank God. Now I couldn't wait for Phil to get home from work so I could tell him the good news!

Telling Phil

I made a sign and hung it from the mantel. Below the sign I put the positive pregnancy tests. Because Halloween was in a week I made a ? mini pumpkin to match our family of pumpkins we had on the porch. When Phil came home from work Emrie and I were waiting for him and we handed him the digital pregnancy test. He was VERY surprised because the night before I had told him I was 95% sure I wasn't pregnant and he had talked to me earlier that day and I hadn't said anything about it. What a FUN surprise!!!

First Ultrasound

On November 17th, 2011, we went to the doctor for the first ultrasound. We saw the heart flickering and heard your heartbeat at 164 beats per second. Baby measured at 7 weeks 4 days old which put your due date at July 1st, 2012. It was such a relief to hear the beating heart and to know that heart will be the same one that beats for the rest of their life!!!

Telling Phil's Family

We were planning to wait to tell Phil's parents at Christmas, but then we found out that Phil's brother, Tony, was going to be on Skype on Thanksgiving day. Because Tony lives in Australia we hardly ever get to talk to him so we figured it would be best to share the news while we had him on Skype. Tony had given Emrie a Komono when he lived in Singapore so Phil dressed her in the outfit, then said, "since you don't live in Singapore anymore we had to find a new, more appropriate outfit." Then Phil took the top off and there was a Big Sister shirt underneath. Marcia started screaming. It was so great!

Second Ultrasound

The day before we left to go to California for Emrie's 1st birthday party I was scheduled for a routine check up. We had a little bit of a scare when the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat. So, I got to have an ultrasound and we were able to see the little heart flicker and hear the thudding heart at 170 beats per minute. It was very reassuring to see the little body again!

Telling My Family

We had a big first birthday party for Emrie at my parents house and I brought a Big Siter book and a Big Sister t-shirt that she was going to open for her birthday present. I hid the shirt and book in a stack of sweaters in the guest closet thinking it was safe. 5 minutes later I came back from the bathroom and the book was on my suitcase and the stack of sweaters were gone. My mom was wearing the green sweater that was on the top of the stack. So I said, "Mom, could you read this book to Emrie since you know now." She looked at me so confused. Then I realized that she didn't even get it. I told her to read the title and then she got super excited. I made her keep it a secret until Saturday's party. When Emrie opened her present, my dad and brother didn't really get it, but everyone else at the party totally got it. My dad and brother caught on, and everyone was super excited!!!

She looks pretty surprised:)

Needless to say, we are very excited and can't wait to meet baby 2 July 1, 2012!!!
