This was another project that we thought we could live with until we actually moved in and realized just how stained, smelly and old the carpet was, how many holes there were in the walls and how overall dark and tired it felt. The ceiling was painted the same tan/brown color that was on the walls and all the trim was a cream. The ceiling fan didn't give off much light and it was a particular style also, which didn't help.
We removed all of the shelves, painted the ceiling, the trim, crown molding and walls, replaced the ceiling fan and another flush mount light, and replaced the carpet. It was a much bigger project than I anticipated, but it feels so worth it. It isn't decorated exactly the way I want it (let's be honest, my whole house is always a work in progress) especially the dresser area and the orange accents, but I am enjoying this completed stage now! My only regret it the wall color. It is more mauve than I would have liked (I was going for light grey), but I think some of that has to do with the lighting in the room, because it feels like it changes color with the time of day and which lights are on or off. Overall, it is clean, fresh, smells good, and the carpet is oh so soft, and I am very happy!

I will admit, when Phil first asked me to paint the closet, I was a little unsure. Not because it didn't need it (there were patch marks EVERYWHERE and it was so drab), but because I felt like my time could be spent better in other ways. WOW, did I underestimate how big of an impact painting (and carpeting) this closet would make. I am SO glad that I took the time to paint the ceiling, walls and trim. Again, not only does it smell way better, but it feels better and let's be honest, it is hard enough to pick out an outfit for a woman anyway, but doing it in a brightly lit, freshly painted closet makes it a little easier:)
